Release 1.2.2 - Long sessions stay fast

· By Adam NowakowskiRelease 1.2.2

If Beadloo has ever turned sluggish an hour into a big pattern — beads landing a beat behind your cursor, the canvas stuttering when you pan — this release is for you. There were six separate causes. All six are fixed.

Release-1_2_2

What you should notice

  1. The editor stays quick - Hour three should now feel the same as minute one — the same responsiveness when you draw, select, paste, and pan.
  2. Refreshing helps again - One of the causes lived in Beadloo's offline cache, which meant reloading the page carried the problem straight back with it. That one is gone.
  3. Long sessions use far less memory - Good news for phones, tablets, and anyone who keeps a pattern open for days at a time — fewer dropped tabs, less heat, better battery.
  4. Drawing is smoother with a selection on screen - Selections, pasted blocks, and polygon outlines no longer quietly compete for your frame rate.
  5. Pages load faster on repeat visits - Cached bead images are now served instantly instead of waiting on the network first.

Thank you, Ariel

Special thanks to Ariel, one of our Pro users, who told us about this slowdown and has sent along a long list of other ideas for making Beadloo better besides. A great deal of what improves here starts exactly that way — with someone taking the time to write in about something that could be better.

Thanks as well to everyone else who reported the slowdown and put up with it while we chased it down, and particularly to those of you who mentioned that refreshing didn't help. That detail is what eventually cracked it.

The invitation is open to all of you. If something feels slow, breaks, or simply gets in the way of the piece you are trying to make — or if you have an idea for how Beadloo could work better — please tell us. This is an application for a community of makers, and the people using it every day notice things we never would.

Big thanks from all of us, Ariel.
